One of the best rock albums to come out of Portland last year was summoned into being by Blood Beach, a quartet of musicians that enjoy the shit out of some arch, fuzzy rock; good puns; vintage horror films; and the electric tang of a Theremin. Since the release of Return Of The Curse Of The Creature’s Ghost, the band has evolved into further reaches of sonic whimsy. They are still enjoying a good pop hook and a steady beat, but are filling out the edges of their songs with even more chaos and scampering weirdness.
Blood Beach has since recorded a full-length’s worth of new material, but have yet to find anyone willing to help them unleash it on the world. But they were kind enough to pluck a song from that collection and allow me to share it with you here on the blog. The track “Neu Wave” was recorded at The Pool with the help of Alex Yusimov. It is, according to singer/guitarist Shane Wright, unmastered and, until now, unreleased. Enjoy.
